“ENEX 2009” (33rd Energy and Environment Exhibition) to be Held in Tokyo and Osaka

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) under the auspices of the Energy Conservation Center, Japan (ECCJ) is to hold the "ENEX 2009” (33rd Energy and Environment Exhibition) in Tokyo and Osaka, scheduled to be held at Tokyo Big Sight on February 10-12, 2009 and at INTEX Osaka on February 19-21.

Japan’s world’s cutting-edge energy conservation and renewable energy technologies and products will be showcased under the event theme - “Energy Saving, New Energy, Environmental Technology Changes the Future - Business to Make Use of for Low Carbon Society Realization, Living to Change”. This annual event will pursue the common aim of establishing a future “low-carbon society”. Where many visitors will be the business people from related industries, METI hosts the events with the aim of facilitating the business application of energy conservation and renewable energy technologies which can be represented as Japan’s featured strengths.

Of those events are the awarding ceremonies such as the “Energy Conservation Month Award Ceremony” to honor those who have contributed to energy conservation which includes the honoring the winners of the “Energy Conservation Grand Prize”. Main awards scheduled to be held at the ENEX are listed as follows:

“Energy Conservation Month Award Ceremony”
On the first day of ENEX 2009 (February 10), an award ceremony will be held for winners of the METI Minister’s Award, the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy Director-General’s Award and other award of the Energy Conservation Grand Prize.

“Exhibit on Major Award-Winning Products of the Month of Energy Conservation”
At the event, the products that received the award (the recipient of the “METI Minister’s Award of the FY 2008 Energy Conservation Grand Prize” will on display. The award-winning drum-type laundry washer/dryer, an eco-driving promotion system, and a commercial air conditioner will be of those put on display.

“Information on Government Energy Policy”
At the one of the event rooms, the “energy policy information section” provides a guiding introduction to the amended “Law concerning the Rational Use of Energy” along with other information such as government’s energy conservation policies and actions.

“Energy Conservation Poster Contest Award Ceremony”
On February 12, energy conservation poster contest exclusively participated by school children of the elementary and junior high. The students beforehand sent their creative posters which solicit further energy conservation actions and the posters were put on review for selection of the winners. At the “FY 2008 Energy Conservation Poster Contest”, they will be receiving the winning certificates of commendation from a TV personality - Hiromichi Sato on the event stage at ENEX 2009, who chairs the review committee.

For the whole event of the ENEX, about 110 exhibitors will participate including home appliance manufacturers, machinery and equipment manufacturers, housing-related manufacturers, energy suppliers, transport companies, and incorporated nonprofit organizations. It is hoped that these events attract numerous visitors (there were 80,000 visitors the last fiscal year). Started in 1977, this event has been celebrated for its 33rd birthday this year.
