Japan announced that the Medium-term target for global warming would be 15% reduction of greenhouse gases

10 June 2009 Prime Minister of Japan and His Cabinet

Prime Minister Aso at the press conference announced the reduction target of greenhouse gas in 2020 is evaluated as “4% reduction compared to FY2005” when it is estimated on the base using equivalent cost of measures in Europe and USA. This reduction rate was supported by more than 70% of public comment. However, with the strong intention that Japan will lead the world in the field of the low carbon revolution, Japan decided the to greenhouse gas reduction target of 15% compared to 2005, as twice the effort is necessary to take a step forward in order to realize the intention.
