3rd Dec. 2009     Ministry of the Environment, Government of Japan

Ministry of Environment declared the start of the campaign, the “Society transformation toward the 25% reduction target and the realization of affluent and good life” this October. This is one of the prioritized policies declared for the FY 22. By this, the Ministry presented the path towards the 25 % reduction by promoting a national campaign, the “Challenge 25”.

Environment Minister declared the start of the Challenge 25 Campaign in December 3. In this declaration, he made the following remarks: The world has faced the climate change that poses the threat to human beings. Japan declared the reduction target of greenhouse gases of 25% compared to the 1990 level by 2020. We can contribute to the realization of the target by further cultivating our environment-friendly technologies, know-how, human resources, all of which have been fostered in Japan. By executing this, Japan will be able to contribute to the realization of the “co-existence of environment and economy” on a global scale, by acting as the world leader among other nations. Prime Minister Hatoyama named the action to protect the earth and the environment in Japan and the future generation, the “Challenge 25”. He declared that this would be achieved by making use of all of policies with the help of the people in Japan. This “Challenge 25” is a national campaign that promotes the actions by providing information related to the Challenge 25 policies, which include the proposal of low CO2 lifestyles and actions in offices and homes. We ask you for your cooperation. With the help of yours, we will be able to become the world leader to tackle the issues posed on a global scale.
