line

24th Dec. 2009
Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Government of Japan

Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and the Ministry of the Environment released the summary of the new creation of the eco-point system for housing as an inter-ministry collaborative effort. This is a new addition to the already created eco-point system for green home appliances.

The government announced the new creation of the eco-point system for newly-built houses and wooden houses meeting energy saving standards. For newly-built houses, the houses meeting the level of energy consumption (stipulated as “the evaluation criteria” for housing construction clients based on the Energy Conservation Act, the “Top Runner Standard”) are eligible based on the total evaluation of energy efficiency performance of construction facilities such as hot water systems and air conditioning systems in addition to the insulation performance of external walls and windows.
For wooden houses, the houses meeting the level of energy efficiency of external walls and windows, etc are eligible for the eco-point system. The creation of this system will be officially determined by the approval of the passage of the second supplementary budget for the FY 09. The budget will be discussed in the regular Diet session which is due to be held in the beginning of 2010.
