Estimated Annual Electricity Cost and Fuel Consumption
  • Under the labeling system for retailers, the estimated annual electricity costs or estimated annual fuel consumptions used are shown.
  • Information on the premises used for calculating the estimated annual electricity costs or estimated annual fuel consumptions are to be made available through pamphlets or posters or explained by staff in the store.
<<Sample premises>>
[Electric refrigerators]
The estimated annual electricity cost is calculated for an electric refrigerator used in average conditions (ambient temperatures of 30oC and 15oC, refrigerated compartment door opened and closed 35 times/day, etc.) and is based on the amount of electricity used annually (kWh/yr) multiplied by 22 (yen/kWh). The actual cost will vary depending on the refrigerator usage in the particular household and the electricity supplier. [Gas water heaters] The estimated annual amount of fuel used is based on a single family of 3 people. The actual amount used will vary depending on factors such as the number of people in the household. The amount is calculated based on a supplied water temperature of 15oC and a heated water temperature of 40oC.

Energy Efficient Product Retailer Assessment System
  • To promote the widespread use of energy efficient products, it is essential to introduce measures aimed at “retailers”, since they form the contact point between manufacturers and consumers.
  • Recognition should be extended to retailers that actively promote energy efficient products or provide appropriate energy conservation information.
  • The Energy Efficient Product Retailer Assessment System was introduced in FY2003.
