Most paper producers import softwood pulp (5-10 per cent of their raw material mix). Small wastepaper-based units import a small quantity of softwood pulp, in order to produce the required quality of paper.

Waste paper as Raw Material
  • Most of the small mills use wastepaper as their main raw material.
  • The main sources of wastepaper in India are industrial waste household waste and Government waste.
  • Imported wastepaper accounts for 50 per cent of the total demand for waste paper. Most imports are from US, as it is the largest wastepaper market in the world.
