Introduction of Energy Conservation Measures in the Transportation Sector

Energy conservation efforts of business operators who act as consigners as well as transportation business operators in the transport sector are specified to be compulsory. Business operators who manage their own transportation needs are also specified to be responsible for such efforts.

Transition of Theoretical Mileage and Actual Mileage of Gasoline Fueled Automobiles Stock
  • While the theoretical mileage of owned automobiles deteriorated to the mid 1990s mainly due to the increased weight of automobiles in use, by fiscal 2001, the level had improved to the level prevalent in fiscal 1991. With this, actual mileage is also showing an improvement trend.

Theoretical Mileage of Shipped and Automobiles Stock
  • The theoretical mileage on a shipment base has shown significant improvement from around 1997 as a result of efforts by manufacturers to improve mileage levels. Driven by this improvement, mileage on an stock base is also showing an improvement trend.

Analysis of Causes of Energy Consumption by Privately Owned Automobiles
  • While the mileage of single units of automobiles has improved significantly as a result of technical development in recent years, the increased weight of automobiles and the number of automobiles stock is driving up energy consumption by privately owned automobiles.
