Questions on Efficiency of Eco-Driving in Japan
  • The energy saving driving method adopted and proved effective in Europe can have the same effect in Japan?
    • Large number of automatic transmission cars
→Shift control is not so easy.
  • Difference of traffic situation between Europe and Japan
    • More traffic jam and more traffic signals in Japan
→Frequent stop, many 'go & stop'
  • Drivers awareness
    • Sudden acceleration is not used.
    • Energy-saving driving does not have so much effect.
    • Driving flexibility is low due to the traffic environment.

Example of Eco-Driving Effect (1):
Measured at the road around Shounan Coast
  • Measures the fuel reduction effect in case of using Eco-driving technique
    • Date: 30th March 2004 - 1st April 2004 (3 days)
    • Place: Public road around Fujisawa City
  • Cars used for measurement (3 cars)
    • Presage (minivan, 2500 cc)
    • Corolla (sedan, 1500 cc)
    • Vitz (compact, 1300 cc)
  • Drivers (9 drivers)
    • Professional drivers (3), Male drivers (3) and Female drivers (3)

Example of Eco-Driving Effect (2):
Results
