Contributing Factors Increasing Energy Consumption in the Transportation Sector

- Passenger vehicles contributed 90 % of the total energy consumption in the whole transportation sector increased during FY1991 to 2001.

Factors for the Increase in Energy Consumption for Passenger Vehicles

- Energy consumption for passenger vehicles marked a dramatic 64% increase over 11 years from FY1990.

- The trend is mainly attributed to the increase in household ownership of passenger vehicles extending the total driving distance and increased vehicle weights compromising the actual fuel economy.
