Factors for the Increase in Energy Consumption for Passenger Vehicles

- Energy consumption for passenger vehicles marked a dramatic 64% increase over 11 years from FY1990.
- The trend is mainly attributed to the increase in household ownership of passenger
vehicles extending the total driving distance and increased vehicle weights compromising
the actual fuel economy.
