2.Causes of the Increase of Energy Consumption in the Transport Sector 1v>

  • Motorization began in Japan in the 1960s and ever since , demand for automobiles has increased rapidly and this trend continues today.
  • In response to this demand for automobiles, paved roads and expressways have been developed to cope with increased traffic.

3.Causes of the Increase of Energy Consumption in the Transport Sector 2v>

  • A significant cause of the increased consumption of energy by the transport sector is the increase of trasportation by automobiles that have a low unit ratio of consumption. The unit ratio of consumption of aircraft has improved and in recent years, is better than that of automobiles.

4.Factors for the Increase in Energy Consumption for Passenger Vehiclesv>

- The trend is mainly attributed to the increase in household ownership of passenger vehicles, increase of the total driving distance and increased vehicle weights offseting the fuel economy important.

5.Transition of Theoretical Mileage
and Actual Mileage of Gasoline Fueled Automobiles Stock(Japan)

  • While the theoretical mileage of owned automobiles deteriorated in the mid 1990s mainly due to the increased weight of automobiles in use, the level has been improving. Actual mileage is also showing an improvement trend.
