METI / ECCJ / ACE Training Program MTPEC04 (2006.02)

2. Energy Conservation Technology for Buildings
Energy saving control on air-conditioning system
(Outside air intake control depending on indoor CO2 concentration,
zero energy band control)

2. Energy Conservation Technology for Buildings
Introduction of free cooling (cooling using outside air) for air conditioning

What is free-cooled air conditioning?
- Using low temperatures of outside air, chilled water is produced in a cooling tower for air conditioning.
- Normally, cooling towers are shut down in the winter season (around November through to around April), but this system is continuously run throughout the year. In winter, the system produces 7°C level cool water, which is used as heat source for air-conditioning
