  1. Scope of regulations under the Energy Conservation Law are the four industrial areas of manufacturing plants and business locations, transportation, residential buildings and structures, as well as machinery and appliances.
  2. The regulations under the Energy Conservation Law on manufacturing plants and business locations stipulate submission of reports relating to energy usage status and periodical reports, as well as appointment of energy managers (energy management officers) and observance of evaluation criteria.
  3. The Energy Conservation Law was amended in May 2008. After the amendment, obligations under the Energy Conservation Law must be verified not only in terms of individual manufacturing plants or business locations, but also for the overall energy consumption of the business operator as whole.
    * The law is put into effect starting from FY2010, but business operators are required to gain a full understanding of their energy consumptions starting from FY2009.
