Examples of Successful cases in Energy Conservation Activities

Energy Conservation Investment
  • Concepts and procedures for energy conservation investment.
  • Improvement of productivity and product quality is closely related to energy conservation activities.
  • Investment can be made more effectively when combined with productivity and product quality improvement measures.
  • Examples of capital investment made in Japan for energy efficiency improvement.

Activities by the Energy Conservation Center, Japan (ECCJ):
Mainly contribution to the industrial sector will be shown.
  • The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and ECCJ make cooperative efforts to put energy conservation policies into practice. In local areas, energy conservation measures are carried out in cooperation with METI’s rural offices and ECCJ’s branch offices.
  • The current ECCJ organization was established during the oil crisis when the Energy Conservation Law was also established.
  • One of the advantages of ECCJ is that it has 3,000 supporting members (enterprises and organizations), who provide personal, technological and economic support, especially in ECCJ activities provided for in industrial sector.
  • ECCJ’s activities cover in industrial, residential/commercial and transportation sectors.
  • ECCJ is mostly METI funded but some membership fees are also provided to ECCJ.
  • Major activities:
    Free of charge energy conservation audits for medium-sized factories and large buildings. Publicity and promotion of superior examples of energy conservation activities. National examination for the license of “energy managers” (assigned by the government). Technical seminar/workshop and educational training programs in energy conservation. Others
