Introduction of Fuel Consumption Standard for Cars
In compliance with "the law concerning rationalization of energy use" (law No. 49 in the year 1979), the fuel consumption standard based on the top runner method (*) was introduced for passenger cars whose carrying capacity is 10 people or less and for trucks whose total weight is 2.5 tons or less. Since then, other standards were introduced one after another for LP gas cars, trucks whose total weight exceeds 3.5 tons.
* The method that establishes the standard values based on the forecast of technical development in the future, having the cars with the best fuel consumption performance among the cars commercially available in the market as the reference.
