6. Approaches to energy conservation

7. Methods of energy management
The key point in energy measures is the management method. The management method of our company (New Oji Paper Co., Ltd.) is introduced below for reference.

7-1 Organization and activities
The vice president in charge of technology serves as a chairperson of the energy measure committee, which consists of the mill's department managers concerned, and the committee is held twice a year. At each mill, the task force, which consists of department managers, is set up to devise a production plan in consideration of energy cost.

7-2 Specific activities
At the committee held twice a year, the "report of actual results and target setting" and the "report of actual energy conservation results and target setting" are conducted.
In the report about actual results, the energy cost (yen/paper kg) and each unit consumption (L/paper T) are assessed on a year-on-year basis and on a target-to-target basis, and the causes of differences are reported specifically.
These values vary with the production amount, difference in product composition, or purchased energy unit price. Therefore, the corrected values are applied to the estimation.
In the report about actual energy conservation results, the power conservation (KW) and vapor conservation (et) for all items that are planned and implemented at each mill are reported and assessed, so that other mills can use the data for reference.

8. Appendixes
Data used herein are shown in Tables 2 to 7.

Conclusion
The summary of energy status was as described above. The companies presented very informative data in many ways, and we presented our examples of approaches to energy conservation and energy management methods. I hope this will be some help to improvement of energy efficiency in the paper and pulp industry.
