Transition of Energy Consumption in the Industrial Sector

- Energy consumption in the industrial sector has been generally steady since oil crisis.

- Energy consumption unit per industrial production index for the manufacturing industry suffered a sharp fall through to the 1980s, but has been on a trend of slight increase since the 1990s.

- Japan's energy consumption unit against GDP in the industrial sector is lower than those of other major countries.

Note 1: The industrial production index is weighted with value added structure (1995 standard).

Note 2: Since the industrial production index is affected by sales values, when a sales price drops, the index may go below the index of production volume.
