Kaizen by Sho-shudan
(Small Group Activities)
in a Factory

TQM and Sho-shudan activity

Energy is used everywhere. Energy is used by everybody. → suitable for TQM Utilization of workers' ability (incentives for workers and top-management) → Sho-shudan
TQM : all persons of the factory are joining to improvement activity.
TQM organization is a hierarchical/stratified organization mixed with cluster of small groups.
TQM activity contains “top-down activities” and “bottom-up activities” ( e.g. “task force” and “SGA”).
( Sho-shudan activity is generally included in TQM as small group activity. )
  • TQM and Kaizen by Sho-shudan activity are very popular in Japanese enterprises/factories. ( Sho-shudan activity is generally included in TQM. )

In many cases energy managers play the role of secretaries, advisers, instructors.
