5. Prevention of energy loss due to radiation, conduction, resistance, etc.
  • 5-1. Prevention of heat loss due to radiation, conduction, etc.
  • (1) Standards on thermal insulation
    1. Construction work for thermal insulation of pipes and facilities used in transporting heating media and process fluids and of heating facilities, etc. (heating facilities) shall be conducted as stipulated in JIS A9501 Standards for Implementation of Heat Insulation Construction and Other Standards.
    2. When building new industrial furnaces starting from the furnace bed, furnace wall thermal insulation shall be improved by taking heat insulation measures based on the values of outer furnace wall surface temperature as specified in Appendix Table 3 (A) (for industrial furnaces whose operating time per day does not exceed 12 hours and whose furnace temperature exceeds 500 °C, the outer furnace wall surface temperature shall be as specified in Appendix Table 3 (A) or more than 70% of the inner furnace wall surface shall consist of the heat insulating substance with the weighted average value of bulk density 1.0 or under. For existing industrial furnaces, heat insulation measures shall be taken with the values specified in Appendix Table 3 (A) as standards outer furnace wall surface temperature.

  • (2) Measurement and recording for heat loss
    • Management standards shall be implemented for measurement and recording of items required for determining heat loss including outer furnace wall surface temperature, heated object temperature, waste gas temperature, etc., for individual facilities for heating, etc., and of items required for improving heat loss, and based on standards, items shall be measured regularly, results shall be used for analyzing heat balance, etc., and records shall be preserved.

  • (3) Maintenance and inspection of facilities using heat
    1. Management standards shall be implemented for maintenance and inspection of items as measures for preventing heat loss due to heat insulating construction of facilities using heat, and such items shall be put to regular maintenance and inspection based on the standards.
    2. To prevent steam leakage due to malfunction of steam traps, management standards for maintenance and inspection shall be implemented, and maintenance and inspection shall be regularly conducted based on standards.

  • (4) Measures for installing new facilities using heat
    1. For installing new facilities using heat, measures shall be taken to improve heat insulation performance by using heat insulator with increased thickness and low thermal conductivity and double-layer heat insulator. When using fire-resistant heat insulator, insulators with sufficiently high fine-resistant heat insulation performance shall be used.
    2. For installing new facilities using heat, the opening section of the facility shall be minimized or air-tight, or be provided with double-doors to prevent heat loss due to dissipation and air flow caused by shutdown resulting from the flow of air from inside.
    3. For installing new facilities using heat, the heat radiation area shall be minimized through streamlining of routes of thermal medium transport pipes.
