Participation in the ASEAN+3 14th New and Renewable Energy (NRE) and Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EE&C) Forum

<International meeting>
Under the instruction and financial support of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) (in the project for contributing to the rational use of energy in developing nations and the EE&C capacity building program), the Energy Conservation Center, Japan (ECCJ) participated in the ASEAN+3 14th New and Renewable Energy (NRE) and Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EE&C) Forum that was held on November 28, 2019 in Manila, the Philippines. At the Forum, ECCJ announced the current situation of Japan’s energy conservation cooperation project for ASEAN countries, and also gathered information regarding the activities implemented by each of the ASEAN countries together with the other supporting countries.

ECCJ participated in the ASEAN+3 14th New and Renewable Energy (NRE) and Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EE&C) Forum that was held on November 28, 2019 in Manila, the Philippines. A total of 47 representatives attended from the governments of Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Japan, China and South Korea, and from the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE), ECCJ, and the Institute of Energy Economics, Japan (IEEJ).

(1) ECCJ reported the results of the activities in FY2018 focused on AJEEP and the plan for FY2019, receiving a comment from ACE requesting that the scheme 2 should be extended and that investigations into the post-scheme 2 details should be continued.

(2) METI reported on the introduction conditions and issues of variable renewable energy and the formulation of a hydrogen basic strategy, while IEEJ reported on the promotion of smart grid and microgrid dissemination, China provided opinions relating to the dissemination of photovoltaic power generation, and South Korea reported on the EE&C capacity building situation with regard to Cambodia, Lao PDR, and Myanmar together with a hydrogen economic road map.

(3) Many energy conservation and renewable energy case examples were shared by each ASEAN country, and the discussions in these sectors were deepened.

(4) It was confirmed that this forum is to be continued in the future, and it was recommended that Singapore should be the host country in the next fiscal year.
