ECCJ held an online exchange meeting on energy conservation cooperation with China

<Meeting>
Under the instruction and financial support of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), the Energy Conservation Center, Japan (ECCJ) held an energy conservation exchange meeting on Thursday, September 15 in order to deepen the cooperation between Japan and the People’s Republic of China relating to energy conservation. The meeting linked both countries in an online format based on cooperation with the National Energy Conservation Center (NECC), ECCJ’s corresponding organization in China.

Since first starting in 2008, the exchange activities between ECCJ and NECC have consisted until now of determining specific fields and topics several times each year and directly meeting through alternating between both countries to conduct activities such as giving lectures on the current situation of energy conservation and its related technologies or making inspection visits to facilities. However, over the last few years, the exchanges have adopted an online format due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The exchange meeting this time was realized on the topic of (net) Zero Energy Buildings, or ZEBs. These are buildings which, in addition to realizing major energy saving, have had great reductions made to their annual energy consumption through the use of solar power generation, etc. Presentations were made regarding the promotion of energy-saving buildings to realize decarbonization in both countries, actual examples of energy-saving buildings were introduced, and participants from both countries conducted a question and answer session and engaged in lively discussions. As a result, understanding of both countries’ energy-saving buildings and ZEBs was deepened, and at the same time it is expected that further cooperation will develop between Japan and China in the building sector, as seen particularly by the proposal received from a group of the Chinese side promoting energy-saving in buildings to conduct exchange cooperation with ECCJ’s ZEB experts going forward.
