ECCJ participated in the ASEAN+3 17th new and renewable energy (NRE) and energy efficiency and conservation (EE&C) forum

<Dispatch of experts>
Under the instruction and financial support of the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy (ANRE), the Energy Conservation Center, Japan (ECCJ) participated in the ASEAN+3 17th New and Renewable Energy (NRE) and Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EE&C) Forum held on February 17, 2023 in Cebu in the Philippines. In addition to giving a presentation on the current situation of Japans energy conservation cooperation project for the ASEAN countries, ECCJ conducted information gathering related to the activities that are being conducted in each ASEAN country together with the other supporting countries.

(1) ECCJ gave a presentation regarding Updates on the ASEAN-Japan Energy Efficiency Partnership (AJEEP)”.
(2) Two presentations were given by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), two presentations were made by representatives from South Korea, and there was one presentation by representatives from China (via online).
(3) 10 presentations were given by ASEAN countries (including presentations by the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE)).

ECCJ participated in the ASEAN+3 17th New and Renewable Energy (NRE) and Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EE&C) Forum held on February 17, 2023 in Cebu in the Philippines. A total of 35 persons participated, including government representatives from Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Japan, China (via online) and South Korea, together with representatives from the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE), ECCJ and the Institute of Energy Economics, Japan (IEEJ).

(1) ECCJ presented a report consisting of a general outline and the four-year plans for the AJEEP Scheme 4 and Scheme 5 programs which started from the current fiscal year. A comment of appreciation was received from ACE regarding the support.

(2) METI presented a report on Japan’s 6th Strategic Energy Plan and on energy efficiency activities conducted in the Japanese transportation sector together with energy efficiency activities implemented by consigners and importers.

(3) Many case examples were shared from the ASEAN countries relating to each country’s electric power circumstances, renewable energy, wind power, sunlight, hydrogen and electric vehicles, and discussions were deepened toward achieving carbon neutrality.

It was confirmed that this meeting will continue to be held going forward, and it was determined that ACE would coordinate the host country for the next fiscal year.
