The Japanese energy consumption in FY 2016: Declined in industry and commercial building sector 1.9% declines to 8280 PJ

The Agency for Natural Resources and Energy (the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry) announced the energy demand record (confirmation report) for FY 2016 on April 24. The Japanese final energy consumption declined by 1.3% from FY 2015 to 13,321 PJ. It decreased in all sectors except for the household sector. By energy sources, electricity increased by 0.1% to 3419 PJ for the first time in 4 years. Town gas decreased by 0.7%. The final energy consumption by sector is 8280 PJ, which decreased by 1.9% in industry & commercial building sector, 1917 PJ, which increased by 0.6% in household sector, 3124 PJ, which decreased by 0.8% in transportation sector. Due to the hot summer and severe winter, only the household sector increased mainly with electricity.
