The Energy Conservation Benchmark: The summary of the outcomes in 2017 have been released – The 22 out of 60 business operators have achieved the target –
The Agency for Natural Resources and Energy (ANRE) under the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) summarized the results of the FY2017 report on the benchmark system based on the Energy Conservation Law.
This system is introduced to compare the energy conservation situation within target industries. In the electricity supply industry, 22 business operators including Shikoku Electric Power have reached the target level among the 60 business operators who submitted their periodical reports. Among the 11 fields as a whole, the average value of the benchmark indices improved in the cement manufacturing industry and the oil refinery industry in comparison with the previous year.
In FY 2008, the ANRE introduced “ The Benchmark System” to set a target level including “Benchmark Index” in order to compare energy-saving efforts of the business operators belonging to the specific industries and fields. In order to encourage the voluntary efforts of business operators, ANRE has compiled and published the analyzed results of periodical reports since FY2010.
The system has been applied to a total of 11 fields of 7 industries. “Convenience store industry” is newly added this time. In the electricity supply industry, the two indicators have been introduced as the level to be aimed at in order to promote high efficiency of the thermal power plant, regardless of whether the plant is newly installed or existing. On the other hand, for the six industries whose average benchmark indices have improved in the periodical reports of FY2017, the ANRE has analyzed and reported that the measures such as the efforts to improve operation efficiency and the introduction of high-efficiency equipment have contributed to these improvements.
