Have started the subsidy for energy efficient ships一 Subsidized up to half of the cost to improve the efficiency and decided the companies to be subsidized at the end of March

MLIT (The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism) and METI (Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry) launched a public offering of energy efficiency demonstration project combining energy efficiency high performance vessels and optimization of operation and shipping plan on February 15th. It aims to promote the energy efficiency of domestic shipping business.

Based on tightening of restrictions on sulfur oxides (SOx) emissions from ships which will start in 2020, the equipping with energy saving type scrubbers will also be a demonstration program. Subsidized companies was decided in late March.

The METI and the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy will use a part of the budget of “Subsidy to promote energy efficiency in the transportation sector by collaboration between cargo carriers and shippers” which was 6.2 billion yen in FY 2019 budget plan.

Once adopted, the cost for ship facilities, design and inspection will be subsidized up to half. The maximum limit per a case is 300 million yen.
