20% of large buildings achieved the ZEB standards in last five years; NILIM surveyed

The NILIM (National Institute for Land and Infrastructure Management) of MLIT (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism) summarized the survey result on energy efficiency performance for buildings of the certain scale including office buildings.
The NILIM analyzed the status of the ZEB achievement for the buildings with total floor area of more than 300m2 established from FY2018 to FY2022 which applyed for energy standards.
The achivement rate of the “ZEB standard level” which reduces primary energy consumption by 30 to 40 % from national standards, is 19.4%.

NILIM conducted the field survey by BEI (Building Energy-efficiency Index) from FY2018.
With referencce to this data, NILIM summarized the analysis results for non-residential new buildings including office buildings, factories, hotels and hospitals up to FY2022.

Among the targeted buildings for the survey, the achievement rate of factories for the “ZEB standard level” was 41.8%, and 27% for “ZEB Ready,” which aims to reduce primary energy consumption by more than 50%, remained at a high level compared to buildings in other sectors. The achievement rates for the “ZEB standard level” is 29.2% for hotels, 21.0% for department stores, and 16.7% for restaurants, respectively.
