New approvals for ground-mounted solar projects to be abolished in FY2027 / FIT and FIP

Regarding support for solar power generation projects through the FIT (Feed-in Tariff) and FIP (Feed-in Premium) systems, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy’s expert panel decided on January 7th to discontinue new certifications for ground-mounted utility-scale solar projects of 10kW or larger in fiscal year 2027.The committee will now compile categories of solar power facilities compatible with local communities, such as rooftop installations, and examine how to prioritize support for them.

The members of the Feed-in Tariff Calculation Committee approved this decision. The types of solar power facilities will be discussed by the Subcommittee on Mass Introduction of Renewable Energy and Next-Generation Power Networks under the Council for Comprehensive Energy and Resources. Specific support measures will be decided at the FY2026 Feed-in Tariff Calculation Committee meeting.
