Energy Conservation Center, Japan and SMRJ to support small and medium-sized enterprise decarbonization with expert dispatch and advisory services

On February 24, The Energy Conservation Center, Japan (Chairman Makoto Kairin) signed a cooperation agreement with the Organization for Small & Medium Enterprises and Regional Innovation, JAPAN (President Tadashi Miyakawa). The agreement aims to support the activities of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) working on energy conservation, CO2 emission reduction, and decarbonization management.

Cooperation will include the dispatch of experts to conduct energy conservation audits, as well as the provide consultation and advice, and share information, while also expanding the pool of supported companies.
Leveraging the fact that the regional branches of the ECCJ (Energy Conservation Center, Japan) and the regional offices of the SMRJ (Organization for Small and Medium Enterprises and Regional Innovation, Japan) are located in largely the same areas, collaboration at the regional level will also be promoted through seminars, events, and the recruitment of experts.

On the same day, a signing ceremony was held at the office of the SMRJ in Minato Ward, Tokyo, where Chairman Kaiwa and Chairman Miyakawa signed the agreement.
Chairman Kaiwa stated, “Energy conservation efforts among large corporations have largely run their course. We had been considering focusing our support on small and medium-sized enterprises, which remain largely untapped, so we are very grateful for this opportunity.”

Chairman Kaiwa pointed out that the main challenge for SMEs in advancing energy conservation is that “it ultimately comes down to capital investment.” He expressed his desire to promote energy conservation activities with the support of SMRJ, which offers the “Labor-saving Investment Subsidy” to boost productivity among SMEs.
