Start reviewing the Top Runner Program for building materials

On 30th June, the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy (ANRE) of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) started reviewing the Top Runner Program on building materials and the Energy Efficiency Labeling System on windows, with the aim of improving the energy efficiency performance of houses and buildings. ANRE will precede the discussions related to windows such as sashes and double layer glasses and prepare the draft summary around February 2022, while ANRE will discuss heat insulation separately and present a draft summary around July in the same year. Towards carbon neutrality, the standard will be revised to lead the consumers to choose high performance products while maintaining economic efficiency.

The discussion began in the Working Group on the Standards of Judgement on building materials of the Energy Conservation Subcommittee (Chairperson: Shinichi Tanabe, Professor at Waseda University) .
ANRE will proceed with the study to consistently establish the envelope performance standards for ZEH (Net Zero Energy House) and performance standards of sashes and glasses.

Top Runner Program on building materials aims at disseminating the high performance building products to the market.
