The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry subsidizes for introduction of industrial heat pump

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has begun the public tender of the projects for business operators under the support project for promotion of investment in energy conservation (Industrial heat pump) approved in the FY2021 supplementary budget. METI will subsidize a company with 10 million yen at maximum  for the part of the cost related to the purchase of the facilities such as air-cooled heat pump chiller, water heater heat pump conforming to the energy conservation standards specified by the Heat Pump and Thermal Storage Technology Center of Japan. The application period ends 18th April and the grant decision will be planned to be made in late May.

METI appropriated approximately 5.4 trillion yen in the FY2021 supplementary budget.
Of these, 10 billion yen will be allocated to the subsidies for the support Project for Promotion of Investment in Energy Conservation (Industrial heat pump) and 50 million will be allocated to industrial heat pumps.

This project will not only cover the replacement of existing heat pumps and combustion type heating equipment with industrial heat pumps, but also the installation of additional industrial heat pumps while retaining the combustion type heating equipment. For large companies, the target of application was expanded to the class A in the Business Classification Evaluation System (SABC evaluation system) stipulated in the Energy Conservation Act.
