The session will continue for 150 days until June 21st, and discuss issues including “Bill on the Promotion of a Smooth Transition to a Decarbonized Growth-Oriented Economic Structure” (provisional name), which will serve as a basis of the GX Economic Transition Bonds.
In the policy speech, Mr. Fumio Kishida, Japanese Prime Minister stated that now was the time to take a step to a new direction in response to changes in the environment around Japan, such as energy crisis. He added, “We need to put away the common sense until today and create a society, economy and global order suited to the new era with a strong determination and vision that sees into the future”.
While introducing concrete initiatives, Mr. Kishida mentioned GX (Green Transformation) and explained that the purpose of GX is to realize decarbonization, stable supply of energy and economic growth at the same time. He said that the government would support intensive energy efficiency efforts, social implementation of hydrogen and ammonia technologies, and research and development of decarbonization techniques by utilizing the growth-oriented carbon pricing.
